A personal email arrived from my friend, Lyn, asking for financial help. Written in Cebuano, the dialect in Cebu; translated it the best I can in English below her original words sent in my mailbox.

My friend, my apology for disturbing you, asking for help. I would like to ask help, any amount for my mother. My mother had a brain surgery at Vicente Sotto Memorial Hospital...then on Thursday, she will undergo tracheotomy and need a big amount of money, everyday for the medicine...please help me, have mercy on me, I am begging to all, really begging...please...please...p lease...
The email bothered me so much. As a daughter, I would do the same to save my mother. While the month of March 2011 was all about Japan's catastrophic earthquake and tsunami, her mother's survival brought Lyn earthquakes, shaking her physical strength, tsunamis that tested her spirit. The message was in my mind all day, thinking what to do. My help would be appreciated but how far will my help go? I am a stay at home mom and still trying my luck blogging. And so the thought of blogging came to light. Perhaps, blogging would be a way to reach more kindhearted people for help.
It all happened so unexpectedly. According to Lyn's story:
My mother , Margarita, just came home from a rosary drive when she felt weak. She sat down, thinking she might be tired, being in her 60's. But the weakness never went. Dizziness followed afterwards, then came the suffocating breath; becoming harder to breath and she starts sweating, with hands up, gesture of someone asking help. Luckily, I went in the room to get something and saw her face down, whispering the word "help me". I ran to assist her but it seems that the weakness is all over her, making it hard to get her up. There was no strength in her, she was lifeless, heavy and still. Something is wrong...in my mind...need to take her to hospital and that instant, my throat screamed to ask for help. Praying and hoping she will be alright.
At the hospital, the doctor told Lyn that her mother had a stroke, resulting to pressure in her brain and need a surgery. She was given three options:
Go home and wait for death to seize her.
Have standard surgery which will cost Php 50,000 ( around $1,000)
Go with a high tech surgery that would cost Php 250,000 (around $5,000)
It is a tough decision to be made. It was not easy being unemployed for a year and now, a surgery that would costs more than a year's salary is waiting for a decision. Weighing the love for a mother and a love for life, she chose her mother to live and worry about the money later. The later had come and the bills are mounting like mountain full of figures. It is unstoppable with daily hospital bills from room rate, to medicines to take and procedures to do in order to stabilized the patient's condition. It is unending addition of numbers. Lyn needs help for a mother dear.
In behalf of my friend Lyn, I am begging to the world to help her anyway you can. Prayers are especially important and donations are welcome with a smile of gratitude. Please help...God will bless you in return. This is an opportunity to help someone in need, with no means of paying back. Please help if you can. This is a story of a friend who lives in Philippines and has nowhere to turn to. Any spare change is never too small when helping a needy.
Email me or send your donation through Paypal to yu_vk@yahoo.com.ph. God bless you a hundred fold.
